Cilicia. Carallia. Maximinus I, 235-238. Triassarion (Bronze, 27 mm, 9.07 g). ΑΥ Κ Γ ΙΟ ΟΥΗ ΜΑΞΙΜΕΙΝΟC Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Maximinus to right. Rev. ΚΑΡΑΛ - ΛΙωΤΩΝ Demeter standing right, holding long torch in her left hand and grain ears in her right; on her head, crown of grain. RPC VI (temporary online) 6226. SNG France 575. SNG Levante 365. Rare. Attractive and well centered with a fine grey-green-brown patina. Extremely fine.
The appearance of both an open (ω) and a closed (Ω) omega in the reverse legend is notable: could the engraver have been having fun, or was there some reason for doing so?
